As we come off the heels of celebrating Juneteenth, Freedom Day for African Americans, we come to observe the 4th of July. This celebration typically brings fireworks, red, white, and blue colors galore, and of course, barbecue! As some Americans take this day to commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, others celebrate their own freedoms and independence in other forms.

The great city of Orlando has so many things you can do during this holiday! While many will choose to enjoy theme parks like Disney, Epcot, Sea World, or Fun Spot paired with amazing fireworks shows they have to offer, others will opt to try something different.

If you’re looking to get out and celebrate, there are many events around town to attend. For those not interested in celebrating in the Florida heat, there’s plenty of fun inside! A/C is a beautiful thing. You can try one of the many escape or breakout rooms in Orlando. Be it the family or a group of friends, nothing says freedom like escaping a bad situation. Check out Orlando’s Escape Room locations.

For a traditional 4th of July experience, Orlando and its surrounding cities have much to offer. Head over to the 4th of July Celebration at Avalon Park where you’ll enjoy community performers, an apple pie bake-off, a wet/dry bounce park, a parade, and a host of other memorable events. Decorate your strollers, bikes, and wagons for the parade and receive a prize for donning for being the most patriotic and/or having the best group. This is event is from 5-9p.m.

Did someone say FREE?! Yes! Enjoy the Star Spangled Weekend Celebration at Sunset Walk in Kissimmee. Free admission is on Saturday and Sunday. Experience lively live bands and DJs, artisan and farmers’ markets, street performers, a car show, and of course, fireworks Sunday at 9:30 p.m.

Let’s fete at the Independence Day Weekend Fete. From July 3rd to the 4th, get your whine on at the Majestic Event Center! This ticket-only event features DJ Supatek and a host of musical performances so you can fete the night away.

Lake Eola Park hosts its annual Fireworks at the Fountain all day Sunday. Festivities begin at 4 p.m. and the fireworks over the lake start at 9 p.m. There will be a kid’s play area, vendors, and live music for the family to enjoy.

Whether you’re celebrating the nation’s independence from England or your own personal freedoms, the 4th of July is a great opportunity to reflect on where we’ve been, how far we’ve come, and how much further we need to go. So relax, enjoy, eat good, and celebrate freedom!
