Vacationing with Kids during COVID-19

While COVID-19 has kept us cooped up, burned out, and yearning for a getaway over the past year, good news is on the horizon. As many people are getting vaccinated, the world is starting to open back up just in time for summer!

Though we’re not completely out of the woods just yet, travel and vacations are safer than they were last summer. Unfortunately, the question still remains, “how and where can we travel safely with kids during COVID?"

How about a trip to the Dry Tortugas National Park? Known for its scenery, beaches, activities; you can even go camping! During our trip to the national park, our first stop is in Miami. Then, we’ll drive down to the Florida Keys and take a boat/ferry ride to the Dry Tortugas National Park. No passport is needed. The entrance fee for ages 16 and up is $15. Ages 15 and under get in free.

Want to vacation in a mansion? Check out the Formosa Grande Mansion in Kissimmee, Florida. This lush mansion comes with a fully stocked kitchen, dining room set for ten, a wine cellar, 20-foot ceilings, a lakefront pool, 9 bedrooms, and 10 bathrooms. Everyone can enjoy their own space and be only less than 10 minutes away from Disney attractions.

How about a vacation that is all about art? Let’s head over to the Design District in Miami, Florida. Everywhere you look, your eyes will capture magnificent pieces of art and architecture. There are beautiful exhibitions that surround you. Even the kids will get a kick out of the artsy swings! Adding even more to the visual senses, you can revel in some upscale retail therapy and indulge in the many cafes and restaurants within the district.

If your family likes to camp or glamp, let’s make our way to The Muvaland in Maryland. This black-owned beachfront campsite allows up to 12 guests per campsite, a picnic table, generators, and pets. You can even roast s'mores over a campfire! Activities include swimming, boating, biking, and fishing. Feel free to camp out in your tent, RV, pop-up campers, or trailers. However, you choose to delight in your experience, make it fabulous!

Splashing down in the Caribbean sounds good to me! Barbados is open and ready to welcome families. Relax and rejuvenate on the sparkling pink sandy beaches. Take a historical tour through one of the Garrison Tunnels. Check out St. Mary’s Anglican Church which was built over 195 years ago. Enjoy mouthwatering Caribbean cuisine that will make you think you’ve died and gone straight into the ancestors’ kitchen!

If you’re up for some serious fun, have your friends and family make an adventure book. One person will choose where you and your family will vacation. Family and friends will then add adventures and destinations they want you to experience. Every page will have detailed directions of what you must do during your mission. You must take pictures and add them to your adventure book in order to go to the next page. It’s unpredictable fun for the family!

As we continue to navigate through this new normal, safety is of the utmost importance. However, the memories we create with our families are priceless. So stay safe, relax, and have an amazing summer!
